2008 Parent Practicum Season
Last Updated August 29, 2008
I attended the Practicum at Chattanooga, TN with Sheilah Taylor. She was such fun and her love of teaching, not only her students, but also those of us who attended the Practicum was always evident. She always had a quote or scripture verse to both inspire and make us think. I went as a tutor and found that her practical examples of how to use the materials in the classroom demystified the job of the tutor. I felt very well prepared to tackle the task of preparing to tutor. Since attending the Practicum I have become the Foundations Director. With the many examples of application in the classroom that Sheila shared, I feel confident that I can be of help and encouragement to the tutors in our program. Sheilah, thank you so much for speaking with us! Tanya Newman (Foundations Director) from Knoxville, Tennessee

Wow! I went into the Practicum thinking I didn't need to learn anything. I walked out realizing I have so much to learn. Leigh inspired me with her love of learning and her heart to help our children learn classically. She is so passionate about the classical model and when she spoke at the practicum I just felt her heart speaking to me. She helped simplify my homeschooling schedule and gave me joy just looking into the future at what my children will get to experience with Classical Conversations. Thank you, Leigh, for all you give to the program. We so appreciate you sharing your passion with us! Keith and Danielle from Orlando, Fla
Thank you, Lisa Bailey! Your speaking and teaching has inspired me to stay the course! I am refreshed, encouraged and inspired as a home school parent! ~ A Wake Forest Family Staying the Course
This years Parent Practicum was excellent! I feel so privledged to have heard Leigh speak in person. She re-inspired me to be my children's educator. Home schooling parents need regular confirmation they are doing what is best for their children and inspiration to continue the daily struggles that will grow our children into the adults God created them to be. Leigh's sessions did all of that and she gave wonderful tips on teaching each subject. This is our second year to teach the "Classical" way and we look forward to many unbeleivable years to come. For our kids to "turn out OK" is not an option! In order to make a difference they must be exceptional! Mark and Amy Maley
Thank you, Heather Shirley, so much for being our speaker at the Greenville PP. Your words were such a blessing. What has especially stuck with me was your comment about the Lord wanting us to homeschool to keep the family together. I consider it a privilege to be with my children all day, teaching them as we go. I?ve heard from some of my families that they enjoyed the Practicum too and were so glad they attended. ~ A Thankful CC Director in SC
I wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed the Parent Practicum in Greenville, SC. I am starting Foundations for the first time with my two first-graders. I came into the practicum on Monday with a lot of fear and apprehension about teaching math to my children, especially in the upper grades. You inspired me to want to learn math and to do my best to teach my children. The practicum was very helpful to me. I especially appreciated your personal stories about your own family and your homeschooling journey. Thank you for sharing your insights and your approach to studying math.
May God bless you, your family and your ministry to other homeschoolers!

2007 Parent Practicum Season
I just wanted to put a plug in for Classical Conversations parent practicums. I had the opportunity to attend the practicum she held in South Carolina this week, and it was fantastic! It is well worth the time, the driving and the money it costs to either put your child in the camp offered during the practicum or find a babysitter. The parent portion is free, which is unbelievable considering what I learned!!!
During a wonderful 3-Day Practicum in Front Royal, Virginia my very artistic 9 year old daughter
Brooke, visited with me over lunch on the second day. She was taking
part in the IEW camp those days. Brooke is usually very
subdued. She does not wear her heart on her sleeve and it's difficult for me to "read" her at times. She doesn't often tell me what's buzzing around in her creative mind.
As we walked across the parking lot anticipating a lunchbreak she said to me, excitedly,"Guess what mom?".
I perked with interest, "What is it Brooke?".
With great enthusiasm she stated, "I know what I want
to be when I grow up!" (Of course we had all assumed she would become a famous
children's book illustrator!)
I replied eagerly, "And what would that be?".
"I want to be a Classical Conversation's Tutor!", she exclaimed.
I was thrilled that our involvement had created in her
such a passion, and I said, "That's wonderful honey!".
Somewhat under her breath she added, "Yeah, but if that doesn't work out
I guess I'll just be a veterinarian!".
Go figure......
