We hope you enjoy the following slides that correspond with Cycle 2’s Latin memory work.

We study Latin for a variety of reasons:
  • To teach students the necessity to memorize conjugations and declensions    and vocabulary to study a foreign language.
  • 50% of English words are derived from Latin.
  • Efficient way of learning the grammatical structure of English.
  • Latin is the key to all Romance Languages.
  • Precision of mind required in the study of Latin is a great benefit in other fields     requiring such precision – science, for example.
  • Literature of Western culture is saturated with Latin.

    Cycle 2
    1st Verb Conjugation

    Cycle 3
    Vocabulary and basic translation

  • We are not teaching conversational Latin – like modern languages. We are teaching a system and its patterns; therefore the benefits of studying Latin are mostly indirect.
  • There are no “audio recordings”
from the Latin world, therefore there are alternate approaches
    to Latin pronunciation.

"Choose a pronounciation and stick with it." - Dorothy Sayers.

    At the Foundations level, Classical
    Conversations uses the Classical
    pronunciation alternative.
