It is amazing how many high school students struggle with higher math because no one made them truly memorize their multiplication tables. Teachers and curriculum wrongly assume they did so in 4th grade. Your brain can’t work on two new concepts at once. So either the child is trying to figure out the multiplying to be done in the algebraic equation, or they can try to learn the algorithm (how to solve the problem). THEY CAN’T DO BOTH. They must know the multiplication tables like they know their best friend's phone number. Therefore, we memorize multiplication tables a lot!
